The Great Tumbleweed Migration of 2007

Oh, how I wish I'd had my camera to hand! After spending much of last week in the Methow Valley with friends enjoying the snow and the company (more on the trip later), fisherbear and I were riding back with RocketMan and Saucy Lady when on Alt Rt 97 we were confronted with the biggest mass movement of tumbleweeds I've ever seen. The winds were very high, and we'd already seen bits of roof go flying as well as huge swells on the river going against the current, but we still weren't prepared for 300-400 tumbleweeds all deciding to cross the road in front of us at once. There was one mildly exciting moment as RocketMan had to bring the car to a relatively quick stop. Then there were lots of moments of laughing our heads off as the tumbleweeds rolled on by in a stampede of rolling brush.

Unfortunately my camera was packed in the back of the car, so I don't have any pictures. But it was a moment well worth experiencing.
