There are days when it just doesn't pay to be a mutant. Today was one of them.

I had a dentist's appointment today to get a crown on a cracked tooth. Unfortunately, today was one of those days when the resistance to numbing agents I inherited from my mother was in high gear. (Some days it's more in effect than others; goodness knows why.) In any event, poor Dr. Karl tried really hard, but even with multiple injections of novacaine he never could manage to numb all the nerves in that area. Not a great result for needlephobic me. Having a live tooth drilled on is not something I recommend. It was quite uncomfortable, and what little numbing effect I did get from the novacaine wore off quickly (another aspect of the metabolic quirk I got from Mom). I had quite the job just keeping myself still in the chair - and I've been pretty much useless for the rest of the day.

As Dr. Karl and I joked, I suppose you could call my resistance to numbing agents a "superpower" - but it's a darn useless and inconvenient one!

Ugh. My invisiblity may be irksome at times, but it's rarely physically painful. :( What silly, uncontrollable powers we have. :P
