The inexorable pull of "morning person"
Mar. 24th, 2005 08:45 amLet me be clear. I am not, by nature, a morning person. Neither am I a night person, or an anti-morning person, or whatever. If left to my own devices, I would probably go to bed somewhere around midnight and get up around eight - but it's been so long since I've been left to my "own devices" for any real length of time that it's hard for me to say for sure.
What I am, in fact, is able to be either a morning person or a night person. I don't seem to have a preset one-or-the-other the way most people I know do. I used to be able to be both a morning AND night person, but I need more sleep now than I did as a teenager, so I find I have to choose. And the way my life is going right now, and particularly with the walking I need to do, I'm discovering that I have to be a morning person. Which is rather unsettling, particularly as I grew up around genuine morning people (my Dad, my Grandma H.) and I know I'm really just an imitation of a genuine morning person. And my husband is definitely a night person by nature, which makes things tricky. Nor am I really able to get to bed much before 11 p.m. without feeling like some kind of invalid. Fortunately, I think I can manage getting to bed by 11 or so and still get up between 5 and 5:30 a.m. without doing myself too much harm or feeling like that much of a freak. Mostly.
It's been a good day for walking so far. I got 2.22 miles in this morning before driving the van, and GPSMan and I did a very quick 2.12 miles in half an hour (good luck with the crisis, dude!), which puts me up 4.34 miles on the day. I need at least five today, but I'll get that and more just by taking the shortest way home this evening, so all in all I'm feeling pretty good. Plus they're playing Bach on the radio - always a happy thing!
By the bye, I've added some of my favorite Internet music providers to the Randomness section - mostly streaming radio stations. Enjoy!
