I'd apologize for the silence, but I'd be lying if I did. I've taken a few days off from the blog (and the computer in general) in order to enjoy the holidays with family and friends. Much fun, much holiday cheer, much rushing around, MUCH gratitude that once again I did NOT have to travel on airlines for the holidays.

Now I'm back in the office after having Monday and Tuesday off, and enjoying the relative peace and quiet (you could shoot a cannon through this place and only disturb a few lone workers) and the snowscape (there's snow at work, but we had none at home). There are so many things I could blog about; year-end top 10 lists, the gingerbread party pictures, the passings of Gerald Ford and James Brown, the utter coolness of the 48 hours of no-commercials-just-music on the local classical station every year for Christmas, the continued iniquity of our current president and his administration, the gosh-wow of a double hand transplant. But what's really sticking in my head right now?

Sara Lee's latest holiday commerical. (Note: the link is a poor-quality, slightly truncated version, but enough to give you the idea.)

A commercial where they flash pictures of their various baked good products to the tune of Ren and Stimpy's "Happy Happy Joy Joy" song.

A commerical that ends with a young blonde-pigtailed girl with white sticky stuff smeared all over her face.

Somewhere out there, the marketing exec (who must be in the same limited age-and-interest bracket as myself and actually remembers Ren and Stimpy) who sold this to Sara Lee must be laughing him- or her- self all the way to the bank.

Roo, if you're out there reading this and haven't seen the commercial yet, hang onto your tonsils - because I'm afraid you'll choke on them laughing once you do see this.

I wish someone would post this commerical up on YouTube - it really MUST be seen to be believed. Edited to add: Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] hiker_chick, you can now click on the link above to view a video of the commercial, or watch a different version on Sara Lee's own Web site (see comment below).

Happy Happy, indeed.

Oh, that's just icky. Well, at least John Kricfalusi managed to squeeze a few more bucks out of his Ren & Stimpy stuff. His new stuff is kinda lacking, like this video (http://youtube.com/watch?v=i7RRLA2m6Yg) for an equally lackluster Weird Al song.

*Sigh* poor Al, I think his star is finally waning....

I do love the idea of someone shooting a cannon off at Microsoft though.....

Actually, knowing the serious streak of crazy that runs through most Microsofties that I know, I suspect that an actual employee would be hysterically thrilled at the idea of shooting a cannon ANYwhere, let alone down one of the hallways at work.
