...really applies when you see good editorial cartoons - although they're not shy about words, either.

A selection from this past week's Schiavo tragedy:

Interesting to note that all these cartoonists are men. I've seen a few by women, but the only one that packed a similar kind of punch to the above also crossed what lines of "good taste" could be imagined to exist in this matter: Ann Telnaes.

Not a cartoon, but another woman speaking her mind is Maureen Dowd. From her editorial: "The more dogma-driven activists, self-perpetuating pols and ratings-crazed broadcast media prattle about "faith," the less we honor the credo that a person's relationship with God should remain a private matter." To which I say: Amen. Selah. So mote it be.

Her whole article is here: Maureen Dowd. You'll probably have to sign up for the NYT to read the whole thing, but it's free, and it's worth it. Or search around online for one of the online papers that carries her syndicated column.

Much food for thought here in all of these and many more excellent editorial commentary out there. Kudoes to the authors, all.

Before heading off to the Great Sand Box both the husband and I made sure our living wills (as well as regular will and Power of Attorney) were up to date. This whole situation with Terry Schiavo has been incredibly sad and disturbing. Perhaps it will come to a close soon and Mrs. Schiavo can rest in peace. Now for the rest of us, I guess we have to put up with Tom Delay until he goes to prison or fails to get reelected; neither one can come too soon.

Well said, Major. I pray none of us ever need our living wills, but I'm very, VERY glad we have them.

So, are you setting up an LJ of your own? *hopeful look*

Live Journal?

SuperWalkingWoman, if you have suggestions as to what my live journal could be about (a year in the life of a new civilian?) please do send them my way. I hadn't thought about a journal, not sure my life is that exciting. But for certain keep your post going, I really do enjoy reading your wonderful entries.

Given that you're making several large life transitions right now (new life path, new house, new state), I'd think a blog about the changes the year brings you would be splendid. Or if you'd rather limit it to start, you could make it about your new place and all the fun/frustration/enjoyment surrounding moving in, settling in, upgrading, and so on. I'd love to see what you have to say, and I'm sure the rest of the family would, too! Image

I do so appreciate David Horsey, and the rest of those are very good, too.

Note to self: Man-cub and I must make wills and living wills a.s.a.p.
