A soggy but satisfying walk

It's raining here, hurrah! It's been raining all day, and has been since I woke up. Of course, I was scheduled to go on a nice walk with monkeybard this morning. Did we let the rain stop us? No! Of course not. We're natives; we're happy when it's raining.

I met up with monkeybard at 8:30 a.m. sharp and we walked down to the lake, where we met Aviva. The three of us walked around the lake, squishing soddenly along and chatting. Aviva went home, and monkeybard and I continued back to monkeybard's house. I then sploshed my way alone for enough extra miles to bring my one-trip total to 10.3 miles. Better yet, I did it in under 3.5 hours - which considering I wasn't moving very fast because of the rain, innundated shoes, long stoplights, and the need to dodge waves thrown up by careless drivers zipping through puddles right next to the sidewalks (hey, drivers, watch out for peds when you're driving in the rain, okay?), isn't too bad - and means I theoretically could finish a 20-mile leg in 7 hours of walking time. Best of all, I feel fine!

Well, rather pruney, but that is only to be expected, after all. And it's a darn good thing I did go ahead and buy a second pair of walking shoes; I really doubt today's pair will be dry enough to wear again for at least 48 hours.

Indeed it was a good but very, very soggy walk. Now, of course, I'm clean and dry and happily putzing about the house and really don't want to leave said house tonight. Ah well.
