We had some absolutely wild weather yesterday. When I left work, it was alternating between pouring rain and hail. The weather continued for almost the entire drive, and I ruefully contemplated how much fun it was going to be to walk home. Then, as we approached the drop-off point, the clouds rolled back and the sun came out. For the first two-thirds of the walk home, the birds were singing, the sun was shining, the flowers were blooming, and the world was gilded into a billion gleaming points of beauty from all the light reflecting from the beaded water on every surface. Then the clouds gradually rolled back in, lowering and growing increasingly threatening. Not five minutes after I walked in my front door, it was raining and hailing again - but I had my 3 miles and then some (3.11, to be exact) in for the day.

Not only does someone up there like me...but apparently wants to keep me moving at a brisk walk within my goal time parameters. Thanks!!!

It was cool, wasn't it? I love wild weather (at least, when I'm not out in it.) At the third hailstorm of the day (the 6pmish one), my daughter L got so excited that we put on our raincoats and stood under the overhang in front of the house, watching the hail fall into a bowl we put out to collect some. She got a spoon and proudly stirred the melting hail: "I'm making hail pie!" (I suggested she dump it over the plants to water them, and of course she had to slowly but carefully spoon some over each little plant.)

I felt a little sheepish that my day yesterday was set up to run and my day today was set up to swim (indoors)--it would have made way more sense to have the indoor activity yesterday. Ah well.

fyi, Hikerchick mentioned that you were interested in pointing me to the Slate article. I had already seen it (and just read the "Coming to Term" book), but I really do appreciate your thinking of me. Thanks.
