Feeling old

For various reasons mostly beyond my control, I needed to work until about 1 a.m. last night. I don't do that as easily as I used to, but hey, yeah, I can still do it.

So why am I feeling old?

Because one of the people I was working with is on the other side of the country. We're teleconferencing at 11:30 p.m. my time - 2:30 a.m. his time - and he's downright chipper about it. He told me that this is fairly usual for him, and yeah, he usually doesn't sleep more than 5 hours a night.

That makes me feel old. I remember when I could get by with 4-5 hours of sleep a night for extended periods of time, but those days are gone, baby, gone gone gone. I want at least 6 or I get downright cranky.

I don't miss much about being younger, and gods know I wouldn't suffer through middle school or high school again for love or money, but damn do I miss the ability to go without sleep.

Well gee, that'd make me feel ever so much better about him. ;-p I don't know how old he is, but I get the impression that he's pretty young. Then again, he could just be one of those Martha Stewart chronic-insomniac-overachiever types. I don't think it's just chemicals, but hey, I've not yet met him in the flesh...

Don't feel old j! You could have people driving down your street with their car stereos on full blast at 4:30 a.m. that wake you from a sound sleep. ;) That's what I HATE. When I was younger, it wouldn't make me all that cranky, but now it pisses me off, royally. I mean, how rude!
