Art Walk and walking
Apr. 8th, 2005 08:11 amThe good: The Art Walk was a blast! We were searching for art and ideas for hiker_chick, and saw some interesting things. We also saw a lot of "eh", and I've come to the realization that in such events, I'm perfectly happy to wander through galleries fairly quickly, giving everything a general glance and not really slowing down unless a piece of art really speaks to me. In other words, if the art doesn't immediately appeal, I'm not necessarily going to give it a long look searching for whatever merits it might have. Part of that I think comes from my dislike of crowds, and the galleries were definitely crowded. Another part, though, I think comes from a growing comfort with the idea that I have definite likes and dislikes in the art space, and that it's okay for me not to like certain things. This is fine as far as it goes, but I want to make sure that I don't let it become conservatism or apathy. I'd hate to find myself shutting myself off from new ideas and art forms "just because".
The bad: Yesterday I didn't quite get my needed 5 miles in for the day. I got up too late to walk to the van, and had to drive home from the van to meet up with my husband and get downtown in time to meet
hiker_chick,
miz_hatbox,
tangerinpenguin, and humilitas for the Art Walk. That left just my morning walk of 2.5 miles and the 1.79 miles I covered while we were wandering downtown - a total of only 4.29 miles for the day. I'm still ahead for the week, but I really have to get back into the swing of getting those Tuesday and Thursday walks to and from the van if I'm going to keep on track.
