I regret never having seen LadyHawke on the big screen. Ditto The Princess Bride and a number of other movies. But like a lot of people, I only discovered them on video or DVD. I missed the chance to see them in full glory on the cinematic screen, and to encourage in whatever small way Hollywood's taking a gamble on making films like those.
Today, I failed for once to miss out on that big-screen experience. humilitas,
fisherbear and I went to go see a movie this afternoon (two movies in less than 30 days - the world is coming to an end!) more or less on a hunch and a hope: the hope of catching a special movie.
Stardust is one of those films. It's not The Princess Bride; it's not LadyHawke (although if you liked either of those films, this will probably work for you, too). It's not even perfect. But it's its own unique, wonderful confection, and I believe it will appeal to anyone with the least amount of fairy-tale magic and poetry in their soul.
Do yourself a favor: if you haven't gone to go see this movie already, get out and go see it ASAP. Don't wait until it's a "gosh, I wish I'd seen that when it first came out" regret for you - for it will be.
