I'm not particularly good with dates, generally speaking, but ten years ago today I left my job and my house and my life in my beloved city to move to San Diego with ![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
fisherbear. Fisherbear and I were recently engaged. He was just winding up a year's leave from his graduate program and needed to get back to SD. Despite the truly insane housing market in SD at the time, we managed to find a place to rent during a visit to SD earlier in the month (everything came together literally on our last morning there; we dropped off the deposit at the airport). I have no idea what we would have done had things not come together as fortuitously as they did. But they did, and my course was set: look out San Diego, here I come.
It was a time of huge change in my life. At the time of the move, I didn't have a job lined up. I didn't know anyone in SD except fisherbear and Mero-San. I was going in blind, not sure of what would come next. But I took the gamble, and years later, I can say that it was all definitely worth it. Had I known then what I know now, I might have done some things differently, but that's always true in life. I came away from SD a year-plus later with two really important things: fisherbear, and valuable experience for a career as a professional geek.
It sure doesn't seem like ten years ago, though.
