Well, it could have been much worse
Oct. 1st, 2007 09:50 pmMy laptop up and died today. Possibly not permanently, and it could have died in a much faster and harder-to-recover-from fashion. (The techie seems to think it's a system board failure; I personally think it's a software corruption issue. We shall see.) I was able to boot it back into safe mode with network access. I tried a system restore, twice, but no joy. I did some digging around in the event log trying to diagnose the problem, which at least made me feel somewhat useful/knowledgable even if it wasn't conclusive.
I don't keep much stuff on my laptop in any case, and what I did have on there I was able to pull off, so that's all good. And in any event, it's not really my laptop. It's my company's laptop, and so they're the ones worrying about fixing it.
Still, not having a functioning laptop is annoying. Hopefully it's just a temporary situation.
