The gift of time
Oct. 19th, 2007 11:06 amMy team is having a morale event today. The "team" part of the event is lunch on the boss at a nice Mexican restaurant. The "morale" part of the event - aside from having a nice lunch with the group - is that we have the rest of the day to do whatever we want, also courtesy of the boss.
Not having to get up at 5:15 a.m....
Not having to go into the office...
Not having to fight traffic both ways...
Not having to deal with any work or fire drills...
Yeah, I can feel my morale going up already. :-)
All joking aside, I really appreciate the gift of time. It's something I often feel I don't have enough of, and there are several projects (Halloween costumes, photography, general organization and preparation) that are demanding immediate attention. It sure beats the heck out of going to see a movie with the group or something typical like that. Not because that isn't fun at times and doesn't build a sense of belonging - one of my strongest "wow, these really ARE my people!" moments came after seeing the first X-Men movie with my entire division - but because in its own weird way, this is the most *personally meaningful* thing my company can give me right now.
