Yes, I know. Not exactly news. And intellectually I am quite well aware that the inevitable consequence of being born is death. Everything and everyone born dies. What happens after that...well, there's lots of theories about it, not to mention organized religions and personal faiths and call-a-mediums and so on. What the truth of the matter turns out to be is something that we'll all discover for ourselves someday. As Peter Pan says, "Death would be an awfully big adventure," and it's one that we ALL have a ticket for.

But until then, there's no getting around it: when someone or something you love dies, he or she is gone. Your world is different, because that being is no longer present the way he or she was yesterday, and never will be again.

No matter how much I understand this intellectually, emotionally and socially is another story. What to say to someone when their world changes. How to adjust to that total shift of a mental map, the sudden gap that belonged to a loved one. The sudden void of presence and love and being, whether it is my own loss or just the resonance of loss from the one bereft.

I still don't have much of a clue. And it's not an education I want, although the world being what it is, it is one I will continue to gain.

Yeah. Mortality sucks, especially when it affects those that I care for.

Yeah it sucks.

I find that giving hugs to those who aren't against them are always a good bet. Other than that...I'm with you...what do you say that doesn't or won't sound trite?
