It's too damned hot for June

jaunthieThe past few weeks have been unusually warm and sunny. Yesterday and today broke temperature records for the region. This does not make me entirely happy. Nice weather is lovely, but having to water heavily this early in the season is just wrong. And the roses...
Ah, my roses. My roses are glorious right now. Two of my most fragrant roses are in full-on bloom, and a third is coming on strong. All of the rose bushes are putting on a tremendous display, despite being somewhat stressed by the dry conditions (and yes, I'm watering them).
Which means, despite being over 90 degrees yesterday and today, I made and water-canned my rose-petal jam for the year. One double-batch yesterday, and another double-batch today. The roses simply would not wait, and you have to make jam when the ingredients are at their best. And I think both batches came out very well.
But oh, dear gods, the house did NOT need the extra heat and humidity from the canning!
I really hope this weather breaks soon. The wind has come up, and there's a good chance of thunderstorms tonight. If the weatherpeople are right, it should be some twenty degrees cooler tomorrow. I'm crossing my fingers.
