Tackling home projects
Jun. 30th, 2009 08:54 pmYou know how it happens. You get busy in your life and your job, and the home projects just start stacking up. Before you know it, the little things have become big things, and you just can't put them off anymore.
We're at that point at chez jaunthie-fisherbear. For instance, *the closets*. I freely admit that I come from a long line of pack rats.
fisherbear is, if anything, worse. And while I try to keep the clutter under control in the public areas of the house, private corners - like closets - can get pretty disorganized and cluttered, full of stuff that we don't really need.
So I'm taking this week off to deal with some of those chores. Yesterday was only a partial day off, and so I only did some general cleaning, a bit of grocery shopping, and some yard work. Today was a closet day. I'm still recovering from the office cold, so I didn't make as much progress as I would have hoped, but as of right now the guest room/library closet is completely decluttered, cleaned, reorganized, and repacked (with much less stuff, needless to say), as is the library bureau. Two of the four drawers are now completely empty. I've also gone through some of the bureau drawers in the bedroom. I've cleared out the shelves in our bedroom closet, moved everything off of the closet floor, gone through the shoe-rack, and cleaned all the surfaces. I still need to go through the clothes in the closet and get rid of things we'll never wear again, but it's a decent start. My eyes, sinuses, and throat aren't terribly happy with me, between all the dust and the remnants of the cold, but I can still breathe, so that's something. There is a truly impressive number of bags full of clothes, shoes, and sundry items waiting to go to Goodwill, and there will be more joining them tomorrow.
So tomorrow, more closet work, and then maybe we'll get to the basement. I'll probably tackle some of that before I move on to the garage.
And yes, I probably have more to do than I can get done in a week, but it sure feels good to get some of it done. Now if I can only squeeze in some writing on top of all of this...

Don't you know that the basement (sotto voce) is where THE MONSTERS live? You do too much de-cluttering in a basement and the monsters get loose.
