That was worth it.
Oh, that was so worth it!
That was worth all the setup over the past few months.
That was worth it, particularly in a week where I had entirely too much to do.
That was worth it, even for a game where our beloved Mariners got their butts handed to them by the admittedly excellent Padres.
It was all worth it, even though I wasn't actually standing in a position where I could see SunKrux's face when the penny finally dropped. Just the way her body froze was classic - and I know the look on her face was priceless just from the way that those who could see - humilitas, [livejournal.com profile] monkeybard, Nordic Boy - dissolved into quiet hysterics.

What am I babbling about, you ask? My good friend Ryalin is a massive Padres fan. She and her husband, Yarry (not a huge Padres fan but a very good sport) have a goal of seeing the Padres play in every major league stadium in the country. This year, Ryalin decided that she really wanted to see the Padres play in Safeco Field...and not so incidentally have a chance to surprise and cheer up her evil twin, SunKrux, who has been coping with far more than anyone really should have to these last 20 months or so. She kindly asked me to make arrangements, and various emailings, phone calls, and vowings of secrecy later, Eowyn, [livejournal.com profile] fisherbear, humilitas, monkeybard, Nordic Boy, Ry, and Yarry all had tickets, with an extra one for SunKrux. The real trick was figuring out how to get her to come, as she's not really a baseball fan - and how not to make her suspicious when she found out it was a Mariners/Padres game. I had a momentary flash of intelligence, and told her it was a get-together so that we could call Ry in San Diego during the game...and dear soul that she is, she bought it. Even better, monkeybard and I managed to arrange things so that she, NordicBoy, and SunKrux arrived in one car, and the rest of us came in other vehicles. It just so happened that when humilitas, fisherbear, Ry, Yarry, and I arrived, monkeybard and Nordic Boy were already there - but SunKrux had gone off in search of food. We were able to set up and get everyone in place before she came back. Not only did SunKrux not spot Ry and Yarry on her way back to her seat, she didn't even see them once she got settled in her seat! (To be fair, I was doing my best to distract her so that she wouldn't figure it out too quickly.) The always quick-thinking humilitas cleverly offered her some garlic fries, and it was in turning around to get one that SunKrux finally realized that the two folks sitting immediately behind us in the stands were Ry and Yarry. As she put it afterwards, she first thought "Wow, that guy looks a lot like Yarry," followed by "What would Yarry be doing here at a Mariners game?" followed by the realization that yes, that had to be Yarry, because that was Ry hiding next to him!

SunKrux is probably going to get me for all of this, but hey, it's really Ry's fault. And boy, was it worth it!

Hee, hee! It really was worth it!

Sorry to hear you were feeling crappy after Saturday's fun. It's years since I hit the street fair, but I remember that you have to take your chances and hope for the best when choosing your food vendor. Hope you're feeling well by the time you read this. ::sends jaunthie virtual tums and codeine::
