Weekend Update
Aug. 10th, 2009 08:40 pmIt was a very busy and very good weekend.
Saturday was nearly nonstop fun. Brunch at my place with family and friends, a communal trip to see Muppets - and coincidentally run into yet another friend, going to a friend's gardening/birthday party to weed out a rockery, and an evening trip to the Korean spa. Can't ask for much more fun than that in a single day! I am very grateful to all the friends and family who turned up at one or more of these events and helped make the day so fantastic.
Sunday was much more mellow. I slept in as late as I wanted for once, something I almost never do. When I did get up, I got dressed, got coffee, cleaned the kitchen, and then went out to the garden to harvest the first of the potato crop (and a bunch of green beans and some cucumbers and the first leek). I wound up with over ten pounds of potatoes, mostly fingerling and Yukon Golds. The Peruvian blues look like they'll be much later to harvest, but that's fine; goodness knows I don't need more potatoes at the moment! I also harvested at least a pound of seed potatoes, potatoes too small (or accidentally solarized) to bother cooking and eating, but should be plenty useful for planting next spring. Harvesting was dusty work and I was fairly tired by the end of it, so I spent the rest of the day doing laundry, reading a book, and cooking up a batch of potato-leek-garlic soup for supper. It was extra tasty with the side of steamed green beans. :-)
And today, it RAINED AT LAST!!! I am thrilled beyond words.
