Garden update
Sep. 3rd, 2009 09:46 pmOn the one hand, it needs to rain a LOT, because I'm dreadfully behind in watering duties and I have absolutely no time and it would be so much more convenient if the garden would just *water itself* for the next week or so.
On the other hand, I have a bunch more potatoes that need harvesting, and it would be much easier to do so if the ground were dry and the weather good.
Sigh.
An amusing note: I experimented with planting onions this year. My friend Jake even gave me some starts of a variety that she finds bulletproof, and a good storage onion. On a whim, I also planted two gourmet-type onions: cippolini onions and leeks.
Surprise, surprise: the bulletproof onions were a dead loss. I didn't get a single onion out of them. However, the leeks are doing just dandy, and I just harvested the first of the ENORMOUS cippolini onions from my garden today (well, enormous for what is a very small onion type, anyway).
Go figure.
I am also SERIOUSLY behind in getting the fall/winter garden planted. At this rate, I'm not going to have one. Argh!!!
