For various reasons, I've been using the laptop a lot more than the desktop in recent days. At home, that is - at work it's still primarily the desktop. But using the laptop on my lap (as I am doing now) or on the coffee table (my other usual option) isn't really practical as a long-term solution.

Yesterday I used a spare lap desk while writing at [livejournal.com profile] monkeybard's. It worked surprisingly well - far better than I had expected, really. And that was her "really kind of dysfunctional" one. So now I'm wondering: should I get a lap desk for the house?

On the one hand, it's probably much better, ergonomically speaking, than what I'm doing now.

On the other hand, it's nowhere near as ergonomic as using my desktop, and getting a lap desk might encourage me not to go back to my desktop setup as often. Besides which, I really don't need one more thing to store/clutter up the house/etcetra.

Much food for thought. I shall ponder as I continue to digest the absolutely fabulous dinner I had at Purple. (Yum!!!) In the meantime, if any of you out there are lap desk users and have opinions one way or another about them, I'd appreciate it if you'd share in the comments.

I dig 'em. (Obviously.) I'm only bummed I can't fix the one you were using. Still, as you discovered, it works well enough. The other one I have is cool since it has an LED light, but it's a little awkward because I have a widescreen laptop. It just means my computer isn't centered on the desk because of the light. Big freakin' deal, though, because that just means there's room for the phone or the telly remote righ there. ;)

Hm, that is something else to consider - how big and what features (if any). I'm thinking lightweight is the way to go, if I go there. Where did you get yours?

The one I bought came from Barnes & Noble. I'll try to remember to ask my mom where she got the one she gave me.
