It's full dark now when I get up in the morning. It's been that way for a while. But now it's full dark when I leave the house for the bus stop, too. It's just getting to the thinking-about-maybe-lightening-up stage by the time the bus picks me up. Actual sunrise doesn't happen for more than 20 minutes after I get on the bus.
I don't mind walking to the bus stop in the half- (or quarter-) light of gloaming. I like the twilight. However, walking to the bus stop in full dark just drives home that yes, indeed, not only do I get up to go to work before the actual crack of dawn, I leave for work before the crack of dawn for at least half of the year.
Sigh.
On the plus side, I do like the night, and there are plenty of street lights in my neighborhood, so it's not like it's actually hard to see my way to work. And I have a strap-on light for illuminating my way and making it easier to see me (which I really should dig out and start using again, now that the dark time of year is more-or-less here). And it's still light out when I get home, which is nice, and it's light before I get to work, which is also good.
But still, the light is slipping away. It's autumn, and the recent cold snap (following hard on the heels of the gorgeous weather this weekend) makes it feel like we've skipped fall and have gone straight from summer to winter. And I'm not quite ready for that yet.
Or maybe I'm just realizing that I really need to find a good wintertime coat. I was cold waiting for the bus yesterday, and I really wanted gloves. I put them in my coat pocket this morning before I left the house, and I wore them at the bus stop, too.
Time to get ready for the cold, the dark, and the fading of the year. Not to mention plant those spring bulbs I foolishly bought this past weekend!
