Yes, you read that right. I spent two-and-a-half hours laughing almost continuously tonight, courtesy of Shakespeare's bloodiest, goriest, most over-the-top "tragedy." Except that like Pericles, Titus really only works as a comedy, and a fake-blood-galore, get-the-crowd-into-it, drop-all-kinds-of-topical-humor-and-anachronisms-into-it, deeply dark comedy at that.
If you live in the area, do yourself a HUGE favor and get yourself tickets to one of the remaining performances. If you don't, savor the lobby warning, and keep in mind that EVERYTHING LISTED is in the original play, the last three items excepted:

Yes, there is a VERY BAD CLOWN. They made Aaron a clown, complete with red nose, full makeup, a tiny hat, and a horn...but let's not talk about where the clown horn was. And really, the part WORKS as a clown in ways that it just can't otherwise.
Anyway, if you can possibly make the time, the play is well worth the trip. You'll never see a better or more appropriate production of Titus, not unless GreenStage really does convince Mel Brooks to direct a version.

Really?
I really will have to carve out the time to go and see that.
