You want evidence of global warming?
May. 27th, 2005 08:10 amTry this one on for size: it was 88 degrees F yesterday. That's 20 degrees above the average temperature for this time of year. In fact, that broke the record for the all-time high temperature for this date. And it's supposed to reach the low 90's today. We have a freaking heat advisory on for noon to 6 p.m. today, declaring weather dangerous to young children and the elderly and anyone who doesn't hydrate properly.
I've already started watering my hanging baskets and vegetable patch as of this week, and I'm going to have to start watering my flowering shrubs and rhodies. Poor things, they don't like the heat much. For that matter, I don't much care for it either, at least not when I'm on training walks. I'd much rather have it 68 degrees and partially cloudy. Not that such weather is likely for the 3-Day in July...but I'm surely glad we'll be getting early starts walking, because trudging in the 5-6 p.m. heat (the hottest time of the day here) is not wise.
Fortunately our bedroom has fabulous cross-ventilation, so it wasn't too hot to sleep last night. And I did get in my walking miles: 5.01 miles, just a veriest smidge over the minimum.
Edited to add that it isn't just here, either; London and most of Europe are seeing this kind of abnormally warm weather, too. Click here if you want more info - but be warned, most temperatures are discussed in C, not F.
