Those of you who know me know that as a general rule, I am very good at being punctual with concrete appointments, meetings, and the like. If I'm expected to be somewhere, chances are excellent that I'll be there a few minutes early. I try to be on time. I'm fairly good at remembering dates and appointments and schedules. I wouldn't call myself particularly organized, but I am fairly well schedule-driven.

Which is why it confounds me no end that I am so very bad with linear time and the awareness of time passing. It just doesn't make that much sense that I can be so good with schedules and immediate time, and so very bad at realizing that hey, wow, that conversation wasn't last week, but several months ago, or that yikes, it really has been years since I last did X, Y, or Z. Things remain "the immediate past" in my head for far, far longer than they ought to. Time isn't really rushing by all that quickly, is it? No, it can't be.

And then every so often I get a wake-up call about time that really shakes me up. For example, I read this in Robin McKinley's excellent (and most amusing) blog:

Robin goes to one of the shows on the 40th anniversary Steeleye Span concert tour

*jaw drops*

No freakin' way. I love Steeleye Span. I've loved them since Jake introduced me to them back in high school, which admittedly was a long time ago even in my time-sense-deficient brain, but seriously. Steeleye Span has been performing together for 40 years? (And they're on tour celebrating this? Are they coming here? Must go check...)

Wow. Time really is zipping on by.

And in honor of Steeleye Span (and for the edification of those of you who might not know who they are) and in recognition of the kind of weather we're having this week, let me direct your attention to this video of Steeleye Span performing Misty Moisty Morning:

Wow. That was a long time ago, and yet it doesn't seem all that long ago at all.

I think I must be getting old.

If they play Seattle (or Portland, or Vancouver, or...) I'm right there with you.

If they did, we missed them. According to their Web site, all their remaining tour dates are in England. So unless you or I win the lottery, I think we're going to miss it. :-p Bummer!
