A few items of note:

  • Apparently I am capable of cranking out more than 8,000 words in a single day, when suitably motivated and/or protected from other distractions. (That was yesterday.)
  • I have officially scored a hat trick. I have "won" NaNoWriMo three years running.
  • I FINISHED THE NOVEL!!!!!

That's right. The first draft is done, done, done!!! *dances around like a maniac*

Of course it's only a first draft. And it's undoubtedly crap. And it's WAY too long (over 200K). But it has a beginning, a middle, and a goddamned END. It is a complete draft.

Time to party!

Thank you! (And I *love* the icon!)

Are you a fellow NaNo-er, by chance, and/or considering it for some year?

The icon is courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] matsujo9, a friend from back in Pittsburgh who is marvelous at such things.

I keep considering Nano, but have never gotten it going in earnest. Pulling it off three years running is just amazing.

Well, if you ever get the urge to take the plunge, we've got a pretty good support group going that you'd be welcome to join. Just say the word. :-) It's a lot easier when you have a group cheering each other on - and when you all get together to write in at a friendly neighborhood pub. ;-)

Congrats!

(200k? In a month? Dear gods...)

(And I keep mean to responding to a few of your posts, but I'm just not online very much right now...)

Dear gods, no, not 200K in a single NaNo. To do that, I'd need to have no other job, responsibilities, or life. No, that's the length of the finished draft, which took me about 2.5 years, counting from when I first had the idea back in May of 2007.

I totally understand about being busy and life and all that. I keep meaning to respond to a couple of yours, too. Your new station sounds all kinds of cool, even if I'm not enitrely sure what you're up to with it. We'll have to catch up at some point - maybe when and if you're out here next.

Do you have an idea of your schedule? More to the point, do you know if you'll be free during the day on weekdays at all? (Weekends and evenings are hard, since there are a lot of martial arts stuff going on then, and I try to get as much training in as I can. But we might work something out... Sunday days might be navigable...)

The hot air rework station is an awful lot of fun, though I'm still ramping up in the serious usage. If I have anything amusing I might bring along an electronic toy or two - my current best effort is either a simon game or a meditation / sparring / math timer. (But I mounted all the components myself. And programmed it. The one thing I didn't do is design the board - we've only done one board, and that was a joint project. And tiny. But a good proof of concept.)

I should be free on weekdays all the last two weeks of December (use it or lose it, don't you know). Hopefully we can work something out in there. I look forward to seeing you and whatever toys you bring!

Oh, that should be very doable. Especially since one of my senior Chen students won't be available that week, and the other is a lot less likely to want to try for nine hours or more at a stretch. (*grin* I love having a tiger stylist, but darn, she can be a little hard core.)

It's likely that I won't have a car, or won't have a car much, this trip - not really sure. But I am bus friendly, and will be staying again up on Cap Hill.

Hooray! I am so pleased for you. Tweaking it for its final draft will be another creative challenge that you will enjoy in another way.

Greg's story about Jacques was wonderful. I left a little comment about that 3 week visit also.
