  1. I walked 15.48 miles today - and that's not counting any of the lots of walking I did at Folklife.

  2. Folklife was a mob scene, and I didn't get there until late in the day, but I managed to shoot a roll anyway.

  3. Riding the monorail is a hoot.

  4. Getting together for Cyn's birthday was lovely. Happy Birthday Cyn!

  5. I did not have good luck with my meal choices at the Icon Grill. The fried chicken was burnt, and the mac and cheese has tomato in it. For my part I was pretty nonplussed with the food and the very slow (if charming) service, but [livejournal.com profile] jenboo swears by the place, and everyone else seemed to have better luck with the food than I did, so it's probably worth another try some point in the future. And the coffee was excellent.

  6. Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith sucked just as much as I feared it would. Bad movie, plot holes you could drive the Death Star through, abysmal and insulting subtext (for example, love is only selfish, it cannot be selfless - and it will cause you to turn to evil), insulting overt text (gee George, have issues with women much?), no sense of the franchise's own history, and very pretty but overdone special effects on top. The only decent things about the movie were a few actors who managed to take the steaming pile they were handed and turn in good performances in spite of it: Mr. MacGregor, Mr. McDiarmid, and Mr. Smits (in an exceedingly small role that he still managed to make something of).

  7. It's way too late and I have to get up reasonably early tomorrow. Good night all...

Folklife was particularly mobbed mid-afternoon (during the hottest part of the day; go figure.) I was there on and off from shortly before noon until eight or so, and the crowds were much thinner as you got farther either direction from, say, 4:00 or so.

Yeah, I elected to do the 4 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. hours that day, and it was definitely better later than earlier. [livejournal.com profile] fisherbear did the all-day thing, and he was quite eloquent about how very packed it was. Today was much, much better, crowds-wise.

If you're doing more Folklife, fisherbear and I will be there again tomorrow - maybe we'll see you!

In fact, I met up with [livejournal.com profile] scorched_mirth and the rest of the family later that evening for a festival dinner. There was shade by then that was not completely occupied by people just slighty faster than us; it was quite nice.

JauntHie and I actually missed Folklife today. (We did get to watch a bomb scare in Fremont, but it wasn't nearly as entertaining.) We did the serial barbecue thing instead, which is sociable and good and let us hang out with lots of friends and family, but around 6 PM the light broke through the clouds and I couldn't help thinking "aw, the light on the fountain is awesome right about now." Oh well.
