Given how little sleep I get most of the time, this isn't an uncommon thought when my alarm clock goes off in the morning. But lately, it's been even more pronounced than usual. A little of that is related to the remnants of the cold I've been fighting, combined with yet another round of bad-foot. Limping is *tiring,* as is never being quite on balance - not to mention dealing with the stares, but that's another post. Anyway, I'm sure all that is contributing, but the biggest cause of don't-want-to-get-up at the moment is something else entirely.

Have you ever woken up in a warm, cozy puddle of purrs?

Yeah. That's me, every morning for the last several. Even before I open my eyes, I'm aware of the soft, buzzing sound of two small catling throats going at full throttle, and a third deeper rumble of full-grown-cat purr idling at a slightly slower but no less enthusiastic pace. I pry open my eyelids, and I'm met by the sight of two furry little faces blinking sleepily but hopefully at me from where they've wormed their way between [livejournal.com profile] fisherbear and me and nestled down. I look up/over a bit, and there's M, curled up on top of fisherbear's legs or chest, head on paws, eyes closed, firmly determined to IGNORE any movement in the bed that might dislodge him unless and until the disturbance involves someone actually getting UP and heading towards the kitchen. And then of course there's fisherbear himself, who is usually still asleep, burrowed down under the covers, and totally snuggleable.

Is it any wonder that I'm having trouble getting up from all that?

Then again, I can think of a lot worse ways to wake up in the morning. ;-)

This isn't an entirely new development, of course. M has always liked to snuggle with us, and particularly fisherbear. He doesn't sleep with us all night - we're both way too restless for that to work - but for the last several years he's come in for about the last hour or so before my alarm clock goes off in order to sleep on fisherbear's legs, or to wriggle his way into the warm spot between the two of us. He wasn't inclined to purr much, though; he was always pretty quiet about it.

When we first got the kittens, they wanted to come to bed with us - but not to sleep, oh no. They wanted to PLAY, and even when shooed away, they would come back to play on the bed at oh-dark-hundred. We had to shut all the cats out of the bedroom for the first few weeks, just to make sure that we got enough sleep. But this wasn't ideal, and after a while the kittens settled down a bit (and learned that waking the sleeping humans was a BAD IDEA), and we went back to leaving the door cracked for M.

Of course we should have realized that since the kittens worship M and try to emulate him in many ways, they too would learn the early-morning-it's-time-to-go-snuggle trick. Certainly it's a more natural thing than learning to play fetch, which they have also picked up from him. But they're also champion purrers, particularly when sleeping on/with others (possibly this is a kitten/young cat thing?) and M has decided to follow their example in this.

So now I wake up to a cocoon of kitty warmth and a pool of purrs. And it makes me smile, even though it's harder than ever to lever myself out from under the covers.

Snuggly kitties do make it virtually impossible to get out of bed, don't they? And yet I would agree that I'd much rather wake up with those purry balls of fluff than without them.

Wish I had your problem. ;) With the kitties and not getting up that is.

Sorry to hear the foot is still buggin' you. Bad foot. No biscuit.

*hugs*
