Wonders never cease
Feb. 6th, 2010 10:42 pmSo I went to the annual flower and garden show yesterday. (Yes, even with a bad foot. This is not the wonder.)
It was a great time. I met up with Jake at around 9:30 a.m., and we spent the day wandering through the exhibition gardens (my favorite by far was the old pickup truck that had been converted into a produce garden/chicken coop and run, including nesting boxes in the cab of the truck and a fruiting plum tree growing smack out of the middle of what had been the engine block), the arranged floral displays, and of course the vendor stalls. Jake and I do our best to keep each other from going too crazy at the vendors. But no, the wonder isn't that I didn't buy anything (and that would truly be a wonder). I did manage to behave pretty well with the plant stuff, though; I only bought six lily bulbs and two peonies, plus some seeds and things.
No, the wonder is that I bought these bulbs and plants yesterday, and I got everything planted today. The weather cooperated in being sunny and mild today, after several days of relatively light or no rainfall, so it was dry enough to plant things. And yes, my foot was still very sore from yesterday, but I couldn't resist the combination of weather and opportunity. (See earlier post about not being a good patient.) I got out the gardening tools and weeded and dug and planted every single thing I bought at the garden show.
And the rain rolled in this evening, just a few hours after I finished.
This might just be a sign of the Apocalypse. I can't remember the last time I managed to get my purchases from the flower and garden show planted within a day of buying them. The weather just never cooperates like this. (Not to mention my schedule almost never lines up properly with good weather.)
Wonders really never do cease, do they?

Date: 2010-02-09 10:40 pm (UTC)You and I both got our new plants planted, it didn't rain on us until we were done so that's bad, BUT....
Since I can't plant the dahlia sets until later in the spring, we're saved from the Apocalypse because not _all_ of the plants purchased at the show got planted. QED.
(or simply nonsensical babbling, take your choice).
