A wheelbarrow full of rocks, part 2
May. 1st, 2010 08:42 pmSo as I mentioned in my last post, I'm in the process of digging out and placing three raised beds in the side yard, for growing vegetables. Last weekend Jake and I dug out and placed the first of the beds. It took the two of us most of an afternoon to do it, too, at least in part because of the sheer quantity of rocks in the soil. We rototilled the area where the other two beds will go (again) in hopes that it would make things go faster/easier the next time.
Today I had a bunch of plants that needed planting, plus those two more beds. MamaBear came for a gardening visit and together we weeded beds and planted most of the plants that needed planting today. I wasn't going to tackle the second bed...but MamaBear wanted to give it a try, so we went for it.
As it turns out, the height of the wheelbarrow/screen combo is exactly WRONG for MamaBear's back. She had to stop after a little while or risk doing Bad Things to her lower back. (Believe me, I was a strong advocate of her stopping - throwing out your back is bad, bad business!) But we had started, and the weather was (mostly) holding, and I've got a not-inconsiderable stupid-stubborn streak. So I kept going.
And going.
And going.
And no, I didn't get the second bed placed, but I dug out the entire area where it will go, and I should be able to get it in place tomorrow. Or maybe Monday, because tomorrow will be full of gardening at Jake's...and I suspect I'm going to be sooooooore.
But two (mostly) down, and one to go. Whee!
