Seasonal Treat
Jul. 18th, 2010 02:00 pmDespite the ongoing cool weather, my lavender bushes are blooming their heads off at the moment. So this morning, after going to see humilitas and Z sing, I decided it was time for a little lavender-centered baking. Specifically, I decided to make lavender-vanilla scones. It's super-easy to do, just so long as you have access to fresh lavender.
How easy?
Step 1: Dig out your favorite scone recipe. (Alternatively, if you're not the sort to have a favorite scone recipe, get a box of decent scone mix, like Fisher's.)
Step 2: Cut the recipe down by half or even two-thirds, unless you want to make a lot of scones. I wanted six petite scones, so I reduced the recipe by 2/3.
Step 3: Follow recipe (or use however much of the pre-made mix). However, add to the recipe:
- The stripped flower heads of 6-8 lavender blossoms, minced (a little more than a generous tablespoon)
- A dollop of vanilla paste (or extract; for this purpose, I prefer the vanilla bean paste with its seeds)
Step 4: Finish preparing your scones as usual (or as stated on the box).
Step 5: Eat. Yum!
Today is a slightly less crazy-busy day than yesterday, which is good, because yesterday was completely insane. Fun, but exhausting.
