Yes, yes, I know. I haven't blogged here in *weeks*. This might be the longest I've gone without blogging anything since I started this blog, way back in...ye gods, 2005? A long time ago, anyway.

So why the lack of blogging? That's a good question. I've been wondering that myself.

First and foremost, let me reassure you that my lack of posting has nothing to do with any horrible sudden circumstances, or being ill, or anything like that. Life here is much as it always is; busy, to be sure, and with no lack of deadlines, but all in all chugging along in its usual manner. Everyone is reasonably healthy and so forth. (Well, yes, both [livejournal.com profile] fisherbear and I did have a bout with the local evil bug, but it wasn't serious. And I did tweak my shoulder, but again, muscle tweak=not serious.)

So it's not some major life crisis getting in the way of posting. Nor is it suddenly winning the lottery and taking off for a months-long trip around the world (although hey, I'll sign up for that one if anyone's giving away winning lottery tickets). Like I said, life is going along about as normally as it ever does around here.

So what gives?

Well, I have been on work deadline, and work has been busy outside of the immediate deadline, too. Blogging about wrestling with the arcana of virtual test machines, certificate authorities, and Transact-SQL script rewrites isn't exactly riveting material, and I try to avoid inflicting it on others. Nor am I inclined to say much about office politics, as a rule. I have to live it; no point in cluttering up the blogosphere with it, too.

But even so, there have been a few amusing or thought-provoking incidents in work-life that have been blog-worthy. I've even mentally drafted a few posts about them. So why haven't I put words on screen?

Funnily enough, I think it has something to do with my creative output. I've been fairly nose-to-the-grindstone the last two months, working on yet-another-rewrite-of-the-novel and getting-prints-done-for-photo-show and other stuff. All of the creative energy I have has been largely focused elsewhere. And that's good, and I've gotten a lot done. Plus all that creative work gave me yet more blog fodder, so yes, there were several creative-related blog posts drafted in my head.

However, somewhere around the beginning of this month, I think I hit the wall. The creative tank ran dry, or maybe the engine just desperately needed an oil change. In short, I found myself massively unmotivated to blog, not even as a procrastination device to excuse not working on one of the multiple overdue betas I owe, or the reorganization and re-hanging of all the wall art at home, or the fall-garden-cleanup, or whatever. No blogging. No betaing. Not much creative stuff accomplished at all, outside of a bit of knitting.

To sum up: I took an entirely unplanned break. And now it's time to get back on the horse.

Fortunately, my recent lack of output provided a handy mounting-block for blog fodder. ;-)
