It started as a headache. And then it grew into a noticably bad headache, but still, just a headache, right?
Enh, not so much. I'm pretty sure the headache was just a symptom, a warning that I was coming down with the EVIL BUG FROM HELL that is stalking my particular corner of the world. So now it's more than a day later, and I'm stuffy, and my throat is sore, and I have absolutely zero energy. Bleh. It's possible this is just the annual "week of feeling like crud" autumn allergies, but I don't think so. I think it's a bug, and it's really annoying. I do not have time for this.
So I worked from home, as well as I could anyway in between bouts of bleh. And this evening, being bored and cranky and general-lack-of-energyish, I decided to catch up on some of the writing and author blogs that I like to follow when I have the time (read: not very often). Usually this cheers me up, or energizes me, or inspires me, or all of the above. But tonight I find myself positively intimidated by all the interesting thinking out there. There are SO many already-published authors out there, more emerging all the time, and so many of them have interesting things to say.
Don't believe me? Check some out:
Words and Wardances - particularly her Query Project entries
Shrinking Violet Productions - particularly "I will be your friend, but I will not be your fan" and its follow-up post
Ideas: Like DNA, everyone has them
Standing on your head in the shower - and really, Patricia's blog in general
...not to mention the queen of making EVERYTHING going on in her life sound interesting, Robin McKinley
And that was just a quick perusal of a few links. There's tons more interesting, thoughtful, entertaining, and intelligent commentary out there, from so many authors. Sometimes it makes me wonder what I could possibly contribute, what I might have to say that would be worth paying attention to in a world already filled with so many wonderful books and amazing voices.
Not exactly the thoughts you want to have with a novel in second-revision mode and NaNo less than two weeks away.
Sigh.
It's probably just the bug talking. I think I'll drink some tea and bury myself in a comfort book for a while.
