1/3 of the way up the mountain. A long ways to go yet, but at least I'm ahead of the curve now, with a little bit more of a cushion.
I also watched the third episode of Sherlock tonight.
ON the one hand, the writing was MUCH better than the second episode. It wasn't quite as good as the first, but damn near close. And OMG, the chemistry between the two leads was just amazing. Great stuff.
On the other hand... Well, there's that ending. Or rather, the unresolved cliffhanger at the pool (water, not falls, but still). Which is bad enough. But unfortunately in the rush to melodrama and angst, the writers forgot to do due dilligence on their homework. Not only is the setup completely ridiculous, the basic premise of the very end has one really fundamental flaw:
C-4 cannot be detonated by a gunshot.
And I believe that's what they said the vests had in them earlier in the episode. So Sherlock's threat? Completely and utterly empty, and pretty much everyone there would have known it. Which just takes the wind out of the whole "stalemate" ending.
Which is a shame, because the acting was *superb*. C'mon, writers. You can do better. And those two deserve the best you can give them. (Yowza!)
Let's just say that I'm VERY glad there's a Series 2 order already in, as that ending would have been unconscionable as the actual, y'know, END. I hold out hopes that Series 2 will be even stronger than Series 1.
