Yesterday morning, I still had nasturtiums blooming in my yard. The lemon balm still had leaves. The rose bushes had just started to lose some of their leaves, but I had late blossoms on those, too. The cosmos were blooming, the lovage and french sorrel were still prolific, and I had tons of swiss chard and kale coming along nicely.

This morning, I have 6-8 inches of snow in my yard. It's about nineteen degrees. And the snow is topped with a lot of freeze-dried rose leaves.

The sage I harvested last night from my herb garden (for the turkey brine) was freeze-dried right on the bush.

Yeah, our weather can be variable when it puts its mind to it. Needless to say, I'm working from home today. The commute home last night is not one I'd like to repeat anytime soon, although I was very lucky by local standards. It only took about two hours, we didn't slide out (our driver was VERY good), I had a warm, reasonably comfortable place to sit, a longtime acquaintance (my former co-vanpool driver, in fact) for a seatmate, wifi, and a fully charged laptop. It was comfortable enough, except for the scary moments where we started to fishtail. And the unpleasant feeling when we passed accident after accident.

On the plus side, working from home today means oatmeal with brown sugar, scotch, and a wee splash of half-and-half for breakfast. Plus coffee. Yum! And it is very pleasant to sleep until I'm ready to wake up. I should try that more often.

Stay warm and safe today, everyone.
