3 Day done!!!
Jul. 25th, 2005 10:38 pmOver the course of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I walked more than 60 miles.
I walked in the rain, in the sun, in the cool of the early morning and the warmth of midday and the damn-it's-hot of the afternoon.
I walked on the flat, I walked uphill, I walked downhill (and it's the downhill that really hurts after the first day).
I walked every inch of the 3-Day course - even when severely tempted by obvious shortcuts.
I walked with many other people, with my walking partner and team captain She's Jake To Me, and by myself.
I walked when I developed blisters on that final day (and yes, I did get a few blisters, but hey, that's not too shabby all things considered).
I walked with Frankentape for part of the second day, for a slight muscle strain in my right leg that was nowhere near as scary as all that white medical tape.
I walked even after camping out for two nights in damp, chilly fields (not something I would recommend after a day (or two) of walking around 20 miles - definitely promotes feeling creaky the next day).
I walked with 2,400 other walkers, under the care of 400 amazing volunteers.
I walked with 2,400 walkers who between us raised 6.5 million dollars for the fight against breast cancer.
I walked, and I thought, and I took pictures, and I took notes, and I will update this blog in the coming days and weeks with many more stories and pictures and thoughts about the walk.
But for now, know that I walked over 60 miles in the Seattle 3-Day - and I thank each and every one of you who supported me along the way.
Thank you to my sponors, who made my trip possible; thank you to my friends and family who came out to cheer me on; thank you to my friends and family who went on training walks with me; and thank you to everyone I ever mentioned this to who said "wow, that's cool - good for you for doing it!" And no end of love and thanks to my husband,
fisherbear, who never wavered in his support for and belief in me, who came out to every cheering station and every camp (and even a few other spots along the route) every day of the 3-Day, and who made sure that his was the face right out in front of the crowd when I crossed the finish line on Sunday.
Lots more to come, but in the meantime, here's a few pictures.
