Mmm, mud-bug soup!

jaunthieDid you know that crayfish (aka crawdads or crawfish) and lobsters are extremely close relatives of cockroaches? Almost makes me wonder if the little guys are edible, because certainly crawfish and lobster are very tasty.

fisherbear makes a kickass gumbo, folks. It's a time-consuming process (2 days, this time; one day for the stock, and another day for the actual soup) that involves a lot of ingredients (okra, sassafrass root, crawdads) that aren't exactly common around here, but oh the results are worth it! We had monkeybard, NordicBoy, and SunKrux over to help us enjoy the bounty. We wound up finishing up with Bananas Foster, thanks to SunKrux's bringing vanilla ice cream and bananas.
