*happy sigh*
Oct. 20th, 2005 07:21 amThanks to the fabulous fitanna's organizational skills (she got us all organized and bought the tickets, hurrah!), a bunch of us went to the Dar Williams concert last night. It was great! I had never seen her perform before, and she's really good live. Her opening act, GirlyMan, appeared to be quite good too, but their sound engineer was either a) asleep b) incompetent or c) really pissed off at the band, because the sound mix was just atrocious. You couldn't understand a word they were singing most of the time, and it wasn't because the band wasn't trying - their vocal mikes were just way overwhelmed by the overamped (and badly mixed) instrumental mikes. Too bad, because they had lots of tight vocal harmonies. I'm going to have to borrow a CD or two to find out if I like them as much as I think I do. It was also great to see Stage Manager T, Cole's Law,
jenboo, and fitanna for more than 30 seconds. It doesn't happen often enough!
fisherbear didn't come to the concert with us, as it was also photography night and he's not a huge Dar fan. However, we had a lovely dinner before scooting off to our respective destinations (fisherbear to photography, the rest of us to the concert), courtesy of
monkeybard and NordicBoy. Monkeybard wanted to try out a new recipe, and who are we to say no to a yummy dinner with good friends? London Broil, Butternut Squash Mac and Cheese (the experimental dish, and really yummy!), good green salad (if I do say so myself), and a nice Washington Syrah - yum!
