fisherbear and I have two cats. One of our cats is quite intelligent on the kitty scale. The other cat gives fenceposts a run for their money in the IQ department, but gets by on being very cute and people-friendly. Wouldn't you just know it, but as we get ready to go out of town for a few days, the cute-but-dumb one (names withheld to protect the guilty) suddenly starts acting incontinent. Contrary to appearances, he's not really
quite dumb enough to forget how to use a litter box, so we confined him to the downstairs bathroom (with litterbox, kibble, water, easily cleaned surfaces, et al) for the night and took him into the vet first thing this morning. Sure enough, he's got a bladder infection - which means he needs antibiotics twice daily for the next two weeks. So now we're scrambling to figure out whether we can board him at our own vet's for the weekend (our doctor's discretion/permission required, we're waiting to hear), or whether we're going to need to throw ourselves on the mercy of
She's Jake To Me and her fabulous (but distant) clinic.
In the meantime, cute-but-dumb is still restricted to the downstairs bathroom - and extremely unhappy about it. He cried all last night, protesting his exile from his beloved humans, and he's fully set on continuing to cry until he is released from durance vile. The poor kitty can't understand why he's been shut up, and being really people-oriented (he's almost always in the same room as the people, and is quite the lap cat), he is far more fixated on getting to where the people are than on his own condition (which we're not quite sure he noticed). Hopefully the antibiotics will kick in quickly and he'll regain continence before our ears give out.
Poor kitty. Poor us.
