Getting this down to a science
Nov. 19th, 2005 10:52 amAfter this trip,
fisherbear and I are pretty close to having airline travel down to a science. For those who are interested:

- REI's convertable cargo pants are ideal for plane travel. They have no metal in them to speak of, are lightweight, dry more or less instantly (in case you spill something on them), can be converted to shorts by zipping off the legs (for those travelling to warm climes), and have a plethora of pockets, including at least 2 deep enough to hold a plane ticket.
- Layers are your friends. Airplanes get cold, whereas airports can be quite stuffy. I find that a lightweight, scruffy wool sweater over a T-shirt is good for the top, while the aforementioned cargo pants can work quite well with long johns underneath if you're travelling somewhere really cold.
- Bring your own food and water - airlines don't really feed you anymore, and when you're travelling long distances, those little bags of peanuts aren't really sufficient.
- For the really technologically geeky, combining an iPod with Bose's noise-cancelling headphones really rocks.
