I was asked this yesterday, in live response to the previous post (yay feedback!). Other than the fact that there were a few of those syndicated shows that I really enjoyed, the answer is simple: ironing. Well, that, and late-night projects, and spinning-down from a social gathering so I can get to sleep. When I have to do a tedious chore like ironing, or I'm working on a craft- or cooking-type project late into the wee hours, I like having brain-dead TV on in the background. You know, the kind of show where you don't have to pay much attention (if any), but is just engaging enough to keep you giggling and/or otherwise amused.
monkeybard swears by golf, but I prefer cheese; it's got more "boom-boom" to keep me engaged without being too distracting. It used to be relatively simple to find something like that on the TV, particularly on Saturday/Sunday afternoons (prime ironing time) or late at night. Now it's all reruns of "Friends" or "Law and Order", with nary an original syndicated series in sight.
I wonder if syndicated dramas, action-adventure shows, and the like even exist on the air anymore (except as reruns), or whether the syndicated outfits have gone entirely to reality-tv knockoffs. I'd like to believe there are some original syndicated scripted shows still out there, but I don't know of any. And that's a shame, at least in my book. Nothing earth-shattering, but it's a general loss of creativity, and that always disturbs me.
