Rain. It's a good thing. And right now we're getting lots of it; we're on track for setting a record for consecutive number of days with measurable rainfall in our area. Of course, I thought the record was smashed back in 1998-1999, where we had (I thought) four months wherein we had measurable rainfall every day (November through February), but apparently we had some days in there where there was no measurable rainfall at the official stations. So the official record is still just over a month of rain every day. Surely we can manage that, no? ;)

What really amazes me are the number of people complaining (in the news and in local opinion pages) about the rain, how horrible it is, how depressed it makes them feel, how much better they felt when we got a brief sunbreak yesterday. I can understand complaining if you're at risk for flooding, or if you're one of the many whose commutes have been disrupted by slides and/or inclement weather, or if you're genuine SAD case (that's Seasonal-Affective-Disorder, not a comment on a state of mind) who can't afford solar lamps. That's reasonable. But for the rest of you who just feel inconvenienced or cranky when the skies are grey and damp...get over yourselves. Look, folks. I like sunlight too. But we live in a place FAMOUS for its rainfall, and if you really don't like rain, you're in the wrong place. At the very least, stop complaining. It's raining. It's going to rain. And some of us really like that. (Newsies, take note.)
