It's...a bunny!!!!
Mar. 12th, 2005 03:40 pmI went for a lovely walk with
monkeybard and
jenboo this morning. The weather was lovely - overcast for most of it, hurrah! - and seemed to just fly by. It was lots of fun talking and walking around the lake. During our circumnavigation, however, I was very surprised to see a rabbit! And not one of the little brown wild bunnies that one expects to see, either, but a large, dark grey-and-white glossy rabbit that was obviously from pet stock. It wasn't particularly afraid of us, either, as we wandered up quite close, uttered the obvious Monty Python quotes, and debated if it was in fact someone's escaped pet, or perhaps a dumpee. (Of course perhaps it was smart enough to realize that in order for us to make a lunge for it, we'd have to reach through the blackberry brambles, and probably wind up tumbling into the lake.) There wasn't much we could do, so we left it be. I hope if it's an escaped pet, its owner finds it quickly. Chances are, though, someone probably got tired of looking after it. In which case I wish it well, and hope the absolutely awful karma that belongs to someone who "dumps" an unwanted pet materializes on the malefactor ASAP. T here is absolutely no excuse for dumping any kind of pet, ever, particularly not in this city, what with PAWS and ASPCA and the pound and everything. And with Easter coming up, I'm sure someone would be willing to take in a bunny rabbit. Not that I think rabbits make good pets, mind you. But if you take on the responsibility of owning an animal...it's exactly that, a responsibility. You have the obligation of finding it another real home if you decide you don't want that.
...okay, sorry about the mini-rant. It was a lovely walk - 8 miles total for me by the time I got home again - and the rest of the day looks to be equally pleasant. I'm going out to dinner and the opera tonight with my friend
hiker_chick tonight, while my husband goes off and plays with the local poker crowd. (He's not an opera fan.) I'm really looking forward to it; we're trying out a new restaurant, and the opera itself has been getting rave reviews. Yay! And it should be fun to dress up - which I'd better get busy and get doing!

Date: 2005-03-13 07:07 am (UTC)Now...on to the amazing stuff. You walked 8 miles????? Whoa! That means I walked pretty close to 7 1/2!!! And right now? Not feeling it. Tomorrow? Probably a different story. But I'm going out in the morning armed with my camera to capture some shots of the too-early Spring.
I will pray for rain, but I'm going to enjoy the beautiful weather while it's here!
Off to soak in a hot tub and read a little trash before bed. :o)
