It's official
Mar. 17th, 2006 10:06 am...we've been sold out by our Senate. All you Republicans (and the one bribable Democrat, Mary Landrieu) who voted for this travesty need to go to Hades right now, do not pass Go, and definitely do not collect $200. From the New York Times:
The Senate narrowly approved a $2.8 trillion election-year budget Thursday that broke spending limits only hours after it increased federal borrowing power to avert a government default. ... Even with the added money, the Senate approved the $2.8 trillion budget by only 51 to 49 with five Republicans defecting. Senator Mary L. Landrieu of Louisiana was the sole Democrat to back the budget after winning agreement for a new $10 billion effort for levee rebuilding and coastal protection to be paid for out of oil royalties and other sources. Her vote saved Vice President Dick Cheney from having to break a tie.
Anyone who does not recognize what a fiscally disasterous course we are on needs to get a head check. Anyone who votes for any of the fiscal lunatics who got us into this mess (George W. included) has my permission to pay my portion of the horrendous debt interest we'll all be taxed with (eventually).
Oh, and just in case you're wondering why you should care, and why I've ranted about this for two days straight: our current debt level translates into $30,000.00 owed by every man, woman, and child in America. (Click on the figure to get even more detail about what this means for our country.)
Yes, you read that right. In six short years, the Bush administration and the Republican-owned Congress have saddled you, personally, with $30,000.00 in debt. Bet you feel really good now about that $600.00 tax rebate you got a few years ago.
And we are all responsible for this. We continue to be responsible for this every day, because we voted them into power, and we're letting them get away with it.
