A momentary break in the silence

I know, I know - I haven't posted in a week and a half. First I had a big deadline, and then I went on a well-deserved vacation for a few days. I've thought of lots of things to post about, too; some political musings, some philisophical thoughts, some reviews of various restaurants and dishes and adventures I've had. And I'll probably get to some or all of them, eventually. But nothing today strikes me nearly as eloquently as this:
