fisherbear was unwell last night, probably the consequence of too much rich food over the course of the last few days' worth of visiting with family and friends. As a consequence, he needed to spend most of the night propped up on the couch. Which meant I was going to sleep alone in our bed. I don't sleep well alone anymore, or at least not in that bed; I'm too used to having him with me - and usually the M-cat too, who loves to snuggle with sleeping humans. But the M-cat, being fisherbear's cat, spent the night with fisherbear on the couch, keeping him company. Fortunately the J-cat, being my cat (or perhaps I'm his human), was aware of my problem. After I'd gotten back into bed after the second time of checking on fisherbear, the J-cat clambered up onto our bed (which he rarely does, it being a high bed, he being a getting-on-elderly cat who doesn't jump very well anymore, and him not being all that fond of extra warmth from sleeping people, even if he trusted sleeping people not to squish him (which he mostly doesn't)). He came right up next to me, snuggled himself underneath my hand, and stayed there, purring, until I finally fell asleep. And stayed there pretty much all night, purring whenever I woke up in order to help me go back to sleep.
He's a good cat, my J-cat. I got much more sleep than I would have otherwise. Which isn't to say I'm particularly well rested, but he did his best.
J-cat rules!
