Pink snow and accidentals
May. 1st, 2006 08:54 amIt's that time of year: the cherry blossoms are falling, surrounding the parent trees and anything underneath them in drifts of pink petals that blow and pile up just like dry snow. The trees rain a more-or-less constant drizzle of falling petals, each one twisting and fluttering in its own unique way, sometimes alone, sometimes in twos or threes or tens or dozens at a time. It's a lovely sight, one that I look forward to every year.
Another joyful trip into the past: I just got a recording of Vaughan Williams' Hodie in the mail. I remember performing this work in college choir, and I remember loving it, but I'd forgotten just how gorgeous and psycho it really is. Yum!
Somehow these two things go together really well, although Hodie was written for Christmas. There's something in the music, however, that goes extremely well with falling cherry blossoms.
