It's official...
May. 6th, 2006 08:43 pm...Mrs. Rosenberg is indeed Doug's mom. :-D
fisherbear and I had an awesome time at the Uncle Bonsai concert last night, where (among many other things) Andrew confirmed that yes, Mrs. Rosenberg is indeed Doug's mom. We had tickets to both shows, and we were thrilled to see
tangerinpenguin there. The two shows were quite different, both in terms of UB's performances (although they were almost all the same songs, this being a recording session after all) and the house crowds (almost completely full for the first set; about half full for the second set, which surprised me). The three of us were in the nosebleed seats for the first show - but given that this was at the Bathouse, the nosebleed seats were the fifth row. We were in the third row for the second set.
UB was in fine voice, although Andrew was having difficulty with his guitar (his chording hand kept cramping). Ashley and Arnie both looked great; Andrew looked good but very tired. The songs recorded included "I Need a Theme Song" (((YAY!!!!))), "It Starts With a Boat", "Family Feast", "I'm Alive", "Out the Window", "Doug Engaged", "The Baby's Head is a Hexagon", "20th Century Man" (although why they re-recorded that one when it's the opening track on Apology is beyond me), and a host of others. Several were songs I've never heard before, and only two ("Doug Engaged", "20th Century Man") had been recorded before (unless you count the MP3 of "Out the Window", available as a free download from the UB site). Some other interesting tidbits of note:
I can't wait until the CD is available! Hopefully it will be out by their November concert.

Some other interesting tidbits of note:
- As UB predicted, the second show featured much more audience participation (read: "hecklers") than the first.
- UB performs a different encore for each show, even when the two shows are together.
- If you ever want to see an expression of pure terror/horror on Ashley's face, be there when UB asks for audience requests for their encore and someone in the audience shouts "Bedroom Eyes!" (Needless to say, that wasn't the encore, even though about half the audience shouted it out repeatedly.)
- Andrew joked that they'd considered doing a concert made up of all the songs referenced in "Apology". To which I say, YEAH!!!
I can't wait until the CD is available! Hopefully it will be out by their November concert.
