On the record
May. 8th, 2006 09:25 amToday's Seattle Post-Intelligencer puts Donald Rumsfeld's statements on the record. The verdict: the man's a liar, plain and simple. The public record shows it. History and Iraq both show that he's utterly incompetent. To quote Andrew Sullivan and a host of others: Fire Rumsfeld Now. Then do a favor to our men and women in uniform: show your support by voting out the Republican majority in the House and the Senate in November. History again clearly demonstrates that the current Congressional leadership won't hold the White House accountable, and our military (not to mention our country in general) deserves - needs, craves - accountability. Not to mention fiscal sanity, which this Congress and this White House has no clue of (record deficits and Twinkie keeps talking about more tax cuts!).
You can read the Rumsfeld record here: http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/national/269394_rumsfeld08.html And while you're at it, check out:
Talking Points Memo
TPM Muckraker (hate the name of the site, but some of the best investigative journalism on the Web right now)
Andrew Sullivan (yes, he's a conservative, fiscally as well as socially)
Jack Schafer and Fred Kaplan over at Slate
Or just go find your own sources. They're out there. If you choose to open your eyes at all, you can't help but see the incompetence of this administration and this Congress. If you don't like the Democrats (and some days I don't much; yes, they're out of power, but they could be a more vocal and effective opposition if they could only find their kiester with both hands and get organized), find an independent-minded politician and support him/her. Start your own party. Whatever. Just whatever you do, don't vote Republican. Even if the candidate is worthy, the party is corrupt. Kick them out.
This has been your political rant for the day.
