Perspective
May. 22nd, 2006 03:40 pmThose of you who know me know I'm not short. I am, in fact, a trifle taller than average, although not notably tall unless I'm wearing heels (as I was the other evening - put me in 3.5 inch heels and I'm definitely tall). My friend humilitas, however, is tall - about six feet without shoes. My friend A is also tall, athough not quite so tall as humilitas. And
hiker_chick is far from being short, too - she's also taller than the average.
Last Thursday, while celebrating
hiker_chick's birthday at Teatro ZinZanni, the four of us wound up standing next to a group of young women that made all of us - even humilitas - feel short. Really short. And running around this weekend, and again today at work, I realized just how many of the younger women are as tall or taller than I am. I'm tall compared to my mother's generation, and definitely tall when it comes to my grandmother's generation, and taller than average for my own generation. But I'm probably just average height for the upcoming generation (if you'll pardon the pun). By the time I get old, I'm going to be short - and not just due to age.
