Creative writing time, that is, as opposed to technical writing, which while an entertaining challenge in many ways (not to mention it pays the bills, yay!), doesn't meet that creative urge in nearly the same way. I've got two stories in active progress, plus a bunch of ideas that are fermenting away like mad, but finding time to work on any of them is challenging to say the least. Argh!

I've been concentrating on trying to finish my turn of the letter-game I'm playing with humilitas, but that too has been hard, both because of lack of time, and because I've had to radically alter the approach to certain events. I know what needs to happen to finish this round, but writing on it is currently painfully slow. The words aren't flowing, but have to be wrenched out letter by bloody letter. Sometimes that results in very good writing (eventually), but all too often it's a message from my subconscious that a) I'm forgetting something critical to the story (i.e., screwing myself up by the numbers for later) or b) there's something really wrong with the plot - at some level I'm not buying it myself, which makes it hard to write/justify to a reader. In either a) or b), the resultant writing will be crapola. I suspect it's a touch of b), simply because of the change in approach I've had to take in response to the last letter - but hopefully not an insurmountable amount of b, since I really do have to work with the new approach. Whatever the underlying problem is, though, I have to get the round done by Saturday. Nothing like deadline pressure...
